"The
single biggest problem with communication is the
illusion that it has taken place!"
This famous
quote from history highlights a fundamental
communications issue that organisations still face
today: often leaders and change managers within
organisations jump to a tactical solution – the CEO Road
show, the Blog, the brochure – to meet their
communication needs. Typically, only about 50% of the
intended audience will actually receive the message.
What
organisations often neglect is developing an effective
communications strategy: who are the key audiences; what
are their perceptions about things; what do we want to
achieve by communicating with them; how do we want them
to respond; what are the key messages; how should we
deliver them; how can we measure whether it’s been
effective.
